El Filibusterismo In A Nutshell
SYNOPSIS
José Rizal, a national hero of the Philippines, wrote his second novel, El Filibusterismo, popularly known as The Reign of Greed in English. Like the first novel, it is the sequel to Noli Me Tángere and was written in Spanish. It was initially printed in Ghent in 1891. Crisóstomo Ibarra, the protagonist of the Noli-El fili duology, makes a comeback as "Simoun" in this book. The dark tone of the book contrasts sharply with the optimistic and romantic tone of the previous book, indicating Ibarra's resort to using violence to address his nation's problems after his earlier attempts to change the country's political system failed and appeared impractical given the corrupt attitude of the Spanish toward the Filipinos. On the other hand, the chosen scenes were chapters 7, 30, 35, and 39. The first part of the picture was Basilio accommodating his friend named Isagani upon the explosion of the lamp. Next, relays the chapter 7 wherein Simoun points a revolver at Basilio. The third picture is indicated in the chapter 35 which includes Simoun holding a lamp he brought as a gift. Chapter 30 was indicated in the fourth part of the picture wherein Juli was in a convent meeting Padre Camorra. Finally, the last part was the chapter 39 consisted Simoun’s confession of his identity towards Padre Florentino.
